Climate change is accelerating the growing season beginning for horticultural plants in Donbass. This increases the risk and damage from returnable spring frosts. Frosts were observed in 2024 in Donetsk Botanical Garden until the end of the first ten days of May, causing widespread damage to horticultural crops. Quince, dogwood and peach varieties selected at the Donetsk Botanical Garden suffered less significant damage or those comparable to other collection varieties. When establishing commercial fruit crop plantings in the region, it is necessary to consider such risks and select a terrain location conducive to the preservation of orchard plantings, establish protective forest belts from hazardous directions and create frost-resistant infrastructure.
