In order to create a regional ecological network, a preliminary quantitative assessment of the distribution of the steppe and forest-covered areas of the Amvrosievka administrative district was carried out. Based on satellite imagery from the free access of the Sentinel-2 project and the QGIS computer program, all the steppe and forest areas of the region were identified. The degree of their fragmentation and the number over the ranges of occupied areas is determined. As a result, the predominantly «steppe character» of the landscape structure of the Amvrosievka district was revealed. Inadequate coverage of the system of protected areas of precisely the steppe areas in the region was also revealed.
